How do you know time out doesn't work for your child? I think it's safe to say it doesn't work when your child comes up, smacks you on the arm/leg/face, and then says, "I want a time out". And it's not that he wants to sit in a chair to have a quiet moment to himself. Once he's in time out he spends the entire time screaming and crying, "NO time out, NO time out!" After time out he apologizes and gives us a hug. However, it's not long until the process repeats itself. Time out is not working...

Classic
John Henry has the same bedtime routine every night. He has his bath, we put on pajamas, brush teeth, and then read a book. After his book he kisses his Daddy goodnight and I rock him while we say his prayer and then sing a few songs. Every night after the songs I tell him to close his eyes and go night night. I rock him for a few more minutes and then put him in his crib. He never falls asleep when I say close eyes and go night night but he never says a word and always fall asleep quietly once he's in the crib. Tonight, when I said close eyes and go night night, he started to fake snore. It took everything I had to not laugh. It was classic!

2 Months
Schuler is 2 months! At Schuler's 2 month well check he weighed 12 pounds, 9 ounces and was 24 inches long. Which means he was 80% weight and 85% length. Not too shabby for our kid!
Sweet Schuler looking more alert this month.
This month we've done better at tummy time. We haven't been as diligent as we were with John Henry but at least he gets a little tummy time every day!.
This month Schuler has been much more awake. Which means I've tried to entertain him (and me). One of the sadder entertainment choices is dressing him up. I love it! Not sure if he gets the same type of satisfaction from it...
We've also spent a lot of time this month using the baby play gym. He loves the mirror part the best. I wonder what that means?
First signs of a smiling baby. He's so mellow and content. He's slowly mastering the mouth smile but I feel like his eyes are always smiling.
Sometimes I look at Schuler and think he's a big baby. Other times I think he's a peanut. The one below is the later (and one of my favorite Daddy and Schuler pictures).
Enjoying some much needed sunshine with Mommy.
Unlike John Henry, Schuler refuses to nap in my bed. Every once in a while he'll close his eyes but it only lasts for a few minutes. Such a shame. I loved napping with John Henry and I feel like I won't get to have that experience with Schuler.
At two months Schuler still has dark hair (although he has less of it) and blue eyes. The doctor thinks he'll keep his blue eyes. I would love that but we'll see what happens.
For some reason I don't think Schuler likes to pose for pictures. Fingers crossed that it's a phase and he won't roll his eyes for the next 20 something years as I snap away on my camera.
Schuler's number one fan is his brother. Every day John Henry gets so excited to see his brother. It's genuine excitement and Schuler is very lucky to have a big brother that adores him.
Very excited to on the ground and moving his arms and legs. I wonder if he'll be my mellow one of if he'll be as crazy as his brother?
Fingers crossed he goes with mellow...
Look at that chunk baby on the floor! I feel like he's a much bigger baby than John Henry was at this stage. Jay totally agrees. Once Schuler hit two months he was too big for a bunch of the 0-3 month clothes. Some of the 3-6 month clothes are fitting better. Oh dear.
Hello sweet boy!
Another fun fact about Schuler is that he still doesn't like the swing. I'm not sure if he understands that I need him to like the swing. The picture below is the one time this month he took a nap in it.
Lots of love from his brother. Jay's getting pretty good at holding two boys.
This is his no more picture, I'm tired, put the camera away face.
Below is how we get him to nap during the day. He LOVES to nap in his car seat. Since we have a monitor by the crib, it made sense to put the car seat in the crib. I'm not joking when I say he takes his best naps like this.
Schuler really is a sweet baby. He had some issues with breast milk so we are completely on formula. We're also working on sleep training. He's not quite sleeping through the night but he's sleeping for much longer periods of time each night. He goes to bed at 9 and we are waking up between 1 and 2. The next wake up is around 5 or 6. Not too bad.
As much as we love having a little baby we enjoy seeing him grow and change each day. I'm curious to see what next month brings!

1 Month
And so the monthly updates begin again. I'll try my best to do them every month like I did for John Henry. Some months may be better than others but I'll do my best.
At 1 month Schuler weighs 10 pounds 1 ounce and he's 21 1/4 inches long. Definitely bigger than his brother was at 1 month. Poor Schuler, he's already being compared to his brother! I would promise to not compare them, but I know I will, so why lie?
At 1 month I think he's a pretty cute baby. I am biased and as much as I shouldn't say this, I think Schuler looks a lot cuter in his 1 month picture than John Henry. Awful to say but even Jay agrees.
When Schuler was born he had dark hair, big cheeks, and a little jaundice.
At 1 month his hair appears lighter (which may be due to the fact that's he's losing some of it), he's slowly starting to grow into his cheeks, and he still has a little jaundice. Nothing bad, just enough to give him some color.
Like John Henry, we started tummy time around two weeks with Schuler. I must confess that we are not as diligent with tummy time the second time around. As a result, Schuler hasn't rolled over yet but he sure looks cute trying!
These next two pictures show our sweet baby giving up on tummy time and doing what he does best, sleep!
Baby's first bath. He didn't mind. In fact, I'm not sure he even knew that anything different was going on. He just slept through it.
All clean and still sleeping. This sweet boy really does have dark hair and it's the most obvious when I comb it after his bath.
Schuler getting some outside time with John Henry. We haven't found a double stroller that works since Schuler has to be in his infant seat. So the only time Schuler goes on a walk is if Jay and I can both go since it takes two strollers.
When Schuler is awake, I do my best to prop him up on things and snap away with the camera. Schuler could care less that his mother makes him wear frog slippers. They match perfectly with his frog lovie!
We've had our fair share of doctors visits this month. Along with the usual check ups for a newborn, Schuler has had some issues with his digestive system and so we've had a few extra visits. The doctor suggests cutting dairy, peanuts, eggs, shellfish, and juice out of my diet in hopes that it makes a difference. I'm trying but I have a feeling that we'll just have to wait for his little system to mature and it will all work itself out. It certainly hasn't stopped him from gaining weight!
Since the jaundice is taking a little longer to get out of his system, the doctor recommended lots of sunbathing in his diaper. It's funny that I have all these adorable clothes but can't really use them since he's shirtless for most of the sunny daytime hours.
One of the great things that Schuler gets to experience that John Henry never had is Big Brother love. John Henry truly loves Schuler. He wants to kiss him, touch him, hug him, and help him with tummy time. I've tried several times to get them in a picture together but the pictures haven't turned out. So the picture below is the only one I've got (for the moment).
Schuler is proving to be a good sleeper. At one month he's sleeping three to four hour stretches at night and is eating every three hours during the day. We are slowly starting to get him on a scheduled routine. Since he has been such a decent sleeper, we haven't rushed the schedule. Hopefully it won't backfire on us!
What a peanut! This is actually one of two times he's been in the swing. He doesn't seem to like it very much and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this changes.
Since Jay and I are bad parents, we took Schuler out when he was two weeks old. We HAD to have sushi and so Schuler came along. He did great. I don't think he noticed we were out of the house!
We love this little boy so much. He's so tiny but yet so big. He's got these big feet and long toes and we're still trying to figure out where his cheeks came from! I wonder if he'll still have them next month?
