Memorial Day Weekend

It was nice to have a long weekend to kick back and enjoy time with friends and family.  We spent our weekend relaxing outside, playing in the pool, and eating as much good food as possible.

Pool time with our friends

After Jay's race on Sunday we packed up our gear and headed to Mr. and Mrs. C's house for some pool time.  Ragan was there with her adorable girls and Clint and Sarah were there with their kids.  We had fun enjoying the warm water, nice weather, and great company (as always)!  It was the perfect way to wind down the weekend.

My boys always enjoy being outside.

I keep getting dragged into these things.  I can't go as far as saying I loved the race, but I'm happy that I competed - and after the race was finished, I realized that I really enjoyed it.  They aren't cheap by any means.  I need to contact our accountant about writing these things off as charitable donations.  They've got to be - each race is in the name of some charity or another.  Right?

I was also able to use my sweet new bike that my darling wife got me for my birthday.  I would post a picture, but I was obviously moving too fast for any camera to take a picture of me without being a blur.  There really is a lot of room for improvement after seeing my times compared to others - in all phases of the race.

It was an especially good race because of all the people we knew that competed.  Again, I didn't finish first by a long shot (but Beau almost did in the overall grouping, Ragan received a medal for third I think with the girls?, and Chris came in 2nd within the Clydesdale group), but I'm looking forward to the next race and an ass to whoop.

Next up:  Muddy Buddy? Athens?  Peachtree?  Fernandina?  Chattanooga?  We'll see.

Peace, my brothers

Only approriate for a baby

There are several things a baby can get away with that would be considered crude or impolite coming from an older child or adult.  For example, pooping while you eat.  Not acceptable past the age of 3 (and that may be streching it).  Burping loudly after a meal.  For the most part this doesn't fly in most countries past the age of 7.  And then there is a favorite of all babies and children which is sticking out your tongue.  Since this isn't as crude as the others, it takes longer to stop.  It's definitely considered impolite for children, but then again, it's better than the adult version which is giving someone the bird...

So in honor of my crude child, who seems to poop best when eating and burps loudly throughout every meal, I've posted some of his bad habits.  Don't worry, it's the least offensive of them all!

Good thing it's a cute tongue!

Warrior Dash...Warrior Walk

Good times at the Warrior Dash last weekend.  Beau got a bunch of us involved in doing these adventure races / sprint triathlons and it's been a good way to get the competitive juices flowing and also gives me a goal to get in shape.  The Warrior Dash is a laid back three mile race that includes some crazy obstacles along the way.  I didn't come in first but, I think we all had a good time.

5 Months!

Here we are again.  John Henry is 5 months and getting bigger by the minute.  I know it's a good thing but I feel like he's bigger than he was five seconds ago and I can't keep up.  We didn't have a check up this month but we estimate that he's 15 pounds.  I sometimes call him "my little bag of concrete".  He's a happy baby and smiles more than any other baby I've known.

He's not stingy with the smiles!

Getting bigger

John Henry continues to develop his personality.  He loves to talk, move his arms and legs like a wild man, dance and walk (with the help of mom and dad), play with his new toys, and last but not least - play in the water.

He likes showers with Daddy.  I really think it's because Jay sprays his face and he loves it!

He's liking the exersaucer more these days.  He's not so afraid of the sounds but he's still trying to figure out how all the buttons and attachments work.

He also loves his new jumpy toy that the Calverts and Weeks got us.  We have to put a pillow under it so his feet can touch but he loves bouncing and making the piano play music.

He also enjoys his bumbo seats.  I think this was one of Bree's favorites and I can see why.  That toy attachment can keep him entertained for at least five minutes!

We continue to work on solid foods (if you can call baby food that).  Sweet potatoes seem to be his favorite baby food but I use the word favorite loosely...  In addition to sweet potatoes we've tried peas, squash, apples, pears, and carrots.  He tolerates them but I don't think he's a fan at this point.  We'll continue to give him baby food each day until he starts to protest.

What he really loves are bananas.  Not baby food bananas but the real thing.  He chows down and when they are gone he gets angry, and I mean angry!

Mornings are his happiest time.  I try to spend as much time as possible with him before he leaves for daycare.  On the weekend mornings we stay in our pj's for as long as possible and just relax.  The weekends are always too short...

John Henry really loves to sit up.  This chair has been so great (thank you to the Barden and Habif family).  He looks like such a big boy in it.  It's almost sad!

John Henry also loves spending time with his dad.  They love their walks through the yard and singing time together.  John Henry really enjoys Jay's songs which are a mix of rap, country, blues, you name it - he sings it.

We've been working on our sitting time a lot this month.  He can sit by himself, so long as you are there to catch him.  He's doing pretty good.  He likes to hold your hands or a blanket and pull himself up to sit.  However, he still doesn't want to roll over - but he's obviously strong enough to do it.  I guess it's not his thing.

John Henry continues to nap best in our bed but sleeps great in his crib at night.  He's out of the swaddle and using the sleep sack.  Our second attempt with the sleep sack was much better than the first.  He likes it and tries to pull it up over his head.  I tell you what, this kid just wants to have his eyes covered when he sleeps.  Jay does the same thing so I'll blame it on his genes.

I'm hoping that we can do professional pictures this summer.  It's currently on ongoing "discussion" with Jay.  Jay believes that we have plenty of pictures already.  But I want someone who knows what their doing to take our picture.  I want a picture of our family.  One that I can frame.
Until then, we have John Henry's school pictures that will hold me over - but not for long!

At this point we can't tell what color eyes / hair our little boy will have.  His eyes seem to change colors at least twice a day.  (I'm not exaggerating).  They really change with the light and what he wears.  As for his hair, I think it will be blond but not the white blond Jay had as a child.  I think it will be a darker blond but who knows at this point.  You can still catch some red and brown tints at different times.  I'm sure he'll look handsome whatever the combo.  I have to say that, I'm his mother!

Brutal Honesty

I have a beautiful commute from Marietta to Buckhead where I work.  I take Riverside to Powers Ferry to Roswell.  On my commute I pass beautiful homes and parks so it makes it an enjoyable drive.  So much better than being in gridlock on the highway.  I'm also a house freak so I really enjoy looking at all the different homes and landscaping.  For a brief 20 minutes I can get lost in the beautiful architecture and scenery.

This morning, as I was on my perfect drive, I saw a for sale sign in front of a house.  Above the sign was the Internet website that provides additional details of the house.  The domain name of the website is 4TheRichOnly.com.  Talk about being blunt!  It quickly brought me back to reality and reminded me that although my commute is lovely, I live in a different world five miles away.  A world where the real estate agents have a little more tact when trying to sell a home.

How Much Do They Love Him???

I'm pretty vocal about how much we love John Henry's daycare.  I know that they take good care of him and I know he is loved on all day long.  However, I didn't know how much they loved him until I received this picture text today.

A teacher at his school saw this over the weekend and bought it for him.  You know your kid is loved if they are buying him clothes!

John Henry's Baptism

Mother's Day was a very special day for us.  Not only was it my first Mother's Day but John Henry was baptized at our church in Decatur.  We do our best to make the trek out to Decatur.  We love it there and it was important to baptize John Henry in the church where we have so many wonderful memories.  Our pastor married us in the chapel 3 years ago and it was only fitting that he was the one to baptize John Henry.   Our little boy did great and we are so proud of him.

Before the service.

He was a perfect angel.

After the service we headed over to our house for brunch.  We had a lot of delicious food (thanks to our family) and everyone got to spend some time loving on our little boy.

Holland loves to give John Henry hugs.
