Schuler David Starr

We are very blessed to welcome our son Schuler David Starr.  Schuler was born on October 1 at 11:37 PM.  He weighs 7 pounds 7 ounces and is 20.5 inches long.  He has 10 fingers, 10 toes, and appears to be very healthy.  He has blue eyes (we'll see how they turn out), a fair amount of dark brown hair, and the longest toes I've ever seen on a baby.  We think he's perfect and John Henry must agree because he can't stop kissing his new brother.  Below are just a few of the many pictures we have of our newest addition.

Pictures from the first night:

Schuler wasn't weighed for almost an hour after he was born.  During that time he pooped twice so I can only assume he weighed more than 7 lbs 7 ozs when he was in my belly.

All bundled up and happy.

His first conversation with Daddy.

Mommy checking out Schuler's long fingers.  They aren't as long as his toes but they're still pretty long.

Getting love from Cece.

Getting love from Aunt Sherridan.

The next day:

We left labor and delivery around 2:45 AM and moved into our postpartum room.  Throughout the day our family stopped by to love on our little guy.

Grandma Yeary brought us breakfast but I'm pretty sure it was her excuse to come see the baby as early as possible!

Grandpa and Grandma Schuler flew in the night before to help take care of John Henry and meet Schuler.  It's a good thing they changed their flight to arrive on Monday and not Tuesday as originally planned.

Since John Henry is clearly named for the Starr side of the family I wanted Schuler to have a family name from my side.  After months of discussions we decided on Schuler (my maiden name) as the first name.  David is for my Dad's brother.  I never knew David.  He passed away as a young child but I know my Grandma Schuler would be so proud that we used David as a middle name.

Gotta love the pictures that clearly show how exhausted we were.

At peace.

Later in the afternoon Bebe stopped by with Sumner to bring gifts and say hello.

Sumner is so amazing with babies.  Since she's the oldest cousin she's had plenty of practice.

And then came the moment we were waiting for.  My parents brought John Henry to the hospital to meet his new brother.  He was so excited to see the baby and couldn't wait to get his hands on him.

We were trying to teach him to touch the feet.  Since John Henry is in daycare they told us that we shouldn't let him touch Schuler's hands or head.  Yeah right.  We tried but that lasted all of 5 seconds.

John Henry was in love.

And wanted to be around the baby, regardless of who was holding him.

Breaking for cookies.  Mandy was so great and brought us our favorite homemade cookies when she came to visit.  John Henry did his best to stuff as many in his mouth as possible.

Enjoying his new big brother gifts.

One last kiss and then John Henry headed home with Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa.

When everyone left I was able to have some quiet time with Schuler.  Although I prefer to have our little family unit all together, I loved having this time with him.

I don't think he could be any sweeter.
